Asbury Rolls Hiwassee
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury University women’s basketball rolled past Hiwassee College on Wednesday night, defeating the Lady Tigers 110-61. Trenia Barbee recorded her third double-double of the year in the win.
Barbee led the Eagles with 19 points as 16 players scored in the game for Asbury. Barbee shot 8-of-11 from the floor and pulled in 11 rebounds. She Also tied Chelsea Clark for the team lead with five assists and had five steals. Clark added 18 points and Dorian Downs hit five 3’s to score 15 points.
The Eagles (7-3) scorched the nets at nearly 60 percent in the second half, shooting 54 percent for the game. Hiwassee shot 45 percent overall but committed 27 turnovers. Asbury hit eight 3’s in each half and connected on 16-of-33 from beyond the arc in the game. Clark was responsible for six of the 16 made 3’s in the game.
Hiwassee was led by Makayla Cordell’s 25 points, she made all six 3’s in the game for the Lady Tigers. Bethany Allen added 23 points and 11 rebounds. Hiwassee pulled down 29 rebounds as the Eagles grabbed 45.
Asbury's 110 points are the most since Jan. 31 when they scored 116 in a victory over Midway. The Eagles have eclipsed the 100 point barrier for the fifth time under Coach Flener.
Asbury won’t be in action again until Tuesday, Dec. 4 when they open KIAC play at Midway.
