Eagles Win Fourth Straight

Laura CarrollWILMORE, Ky. – Asbury women’s basketball rolled to their fourth straight win on Friday night, 76-50 over Point (Ga.) University in the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic.  Alice Lloyd defeated Cincinnati-Clermont in the first girls game of the day 81-71.

Asbury (5-2) jumped out to a commanding 49-23 halftime lead as Laura Carroll poured in 17 of her 22 points in the first half.  Trenia Barbee also had a big first half, scoring 14 of her 19 points before the break.  Carroll finished the night 8-of-14 from the floor and made all six free throw attempts.  Barbee was 8-of-15 from the floor.

Eleven different Eagles scored in the game as all 16 saw the floor.  Asbury shot nearly 54 percent from the floor in the first half but struggled in the second half, connecting on just 35 percent.  Point shot only 32 percent for the game including a 26 percent clip in the first half. 

Point held a 47-37 advantage on the boards, no player reached double-digits in rebounds on the night.  Dorian Downs led the Eagles with six and LaQuita Rogers led the Skyhawks with eight.  Jyssica Perry led Point in scoring with nine points.  Point turned the ball over 23 times as the Eagles gave it up just 15 times.

Asbury has won four straight after a 1-2 start.  The Eagles will battle UC-Clermont on Saturday at 4pm while Alice Lloyd takes on Point at 12pm.  Asbury defeated UC-Clermont 74-53 last week in the Super 8 Classic at Kentucky Christian.
