Eagles Win Second Straight
GRAYSON, Ky. – For the second straight game the Eagles were without three regular senior-starters, and for the second straight game it didn’t really matter as Asbury defeated Cincinnati-Clermont 74-53 in the Super 8 Classic at Kentucky Christian. The Eagles will play KCU on Saturday at 4pm.
Trenia Barbee led the Eagles (3-2) for the fifth straight game with 23 points. The senior was 9-of-25 from the floor and made five of six from the charity stripe. Asbury didn’t shoot the ball especially well at 42 percent overall and made just 4-of-17 from three-point range. She added her second straight double-double with 10 rebounds. Barbee also had four assists.
With Laura Carroll, Chelsea Clark and Lakin Griffin missing due to student teaching, other players continue to step up. Annissia Wood scored notched a career-high 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Kylee Gorby also stepped up with eight assists off the bench.
The Eagles took a commanding 17-3 lead in the first eight minutes and led by 16, 37-21 at the break. The Cougars briefly cut the lead to nine in the second half but the Eagles kept a comfortable distance the rest of the half before pushing the lead out to 23.
