Flener Announces Seven 2012 Signees
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury University women’s basketball coach Bart Flener has announced his 2012-13 signees, a group of seven girls. The Eagles are coming off of their first winning season and a share of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title after a 9-2 conference mark and an 18-13 overall record.
All seven signees hail from Kentucky, with Julia Harris and Cassidy Flynn coming from Estill County High School in Irvine. Flener has also signed Savannah Taylor (Harrodsburg / Mercer County High School), Catie Fletcher (Versailles / Woodford County High School), Kylee Gorby (Leitchfield / Grayson County High School), Lizzie Hoffa (Walton / Walton Verona Independent) and Sara Sticklen (Brooksville / Bracken County High School).
Julia Harris – 5-10 Forward, Estill County High School
Played for 6 years for Mark McKinley and the Engineers…Selected for the Kentucky-Virginia All-Star team in 2012…3-time 56th District All-Tournament team selection…2011 56th District MVP…14th Region All-Tournament team selection in 2010…played in three straight 14th Region All-Star games from 2010-2012…was also a standout on the volleyball team, earning 2nd Team 2A All-State honors as a senior.
Cassidy Flynn – 5-3 Point Guard, Estill County High School
6-year member of the Engineers under Mark McKinley…56th District All-Tournament team selection…Regional All-Star team selection…named best defensive player in the 56th District Tournament…two year captain of basketball team…also 4-year member of softball team and district All-Tournament selection…Wendy’s High School Heisman school winner and state finalist…4-year class president.
Savannah Taylor – 5-11 Forward, Mercer County High School
Played for 5 years at Mercer for Chris Souder…12th Region Player of the Year…12th Region and 46th District All-Tournament team selection…selected to play on the Junior Kentucky All-Star team…participated in the 12th Region All-Star game after junior and senior seasons…also played in East vs. West All-Star games and Kentucky vs. Ohio All-Star game.
Catie Fletcher – 5-10 Guard, Woodford County High School
Scored 1,523 points over 5 years under Jay Lucas…finished 3rd on Woodford’s scoring list…also finished 3rd in school history with 206 3-pointers made…3-time 41st District All-Tournament team representative (2010-12)…41st District Tournament MVP in 2012…11th Region Team and tournament team in 2011 and 2012…was also named Junior Kentucky All-Star in 2011.
Kylee Gorby – 5-9 Point Guard, Grayson County High School
5-year member of the Cougars under Brad Johnson…team won 12th District title all five years (2008-12) Gorby played…scored over 1,000 points during career including 16ppg as a senior…also dished out 5 assists per game (175 total) as a senior…named to 3rd Region All-Tournament team in 2011 and 2012...All-District 1st team selection in 2011 and 2012…12th District All-Tournament team for three straight years (2010-12)…Named by the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer to 3rd Region 1st Team in 2012…All-Tournament team selection in East vs. West Roundball Classic in 2011…played AAU with Kentucky Blast, winning 2010 and 2011 Kentucky State AAU Championship.
Lizzie Hoffa – 5-5 Guard, Walton Verona Independent
Played for 4 years at Walton Verona for Mark Clinkenbeard…named to the 2010 All-A Classic All-Tournament team…2012 Regional All-Tournament team selection.
Sara Sticklen – 5-11 Forward, Bracken County High School
4-year member of the Polar Bears for Patrick Kelsch…10th Region Player of the Year during 2012 season…scored over 1,000 points during her career…member of All-A Tournament and Academic teams in 2012…39th District All-Tournament team as a junior in 2011, team won district title in 2011…All-Area Co-Player of the Year in 2011…Region All-A Tournament team selection in 2011…Region 1st Team selection and Region Tournament team selection in 2011…Class A Champions in 2010.
