Barbee Named Region Player of the Year

Trenia BarbeeWILMORE, Ky. – Junior guard Trenia Barbee has been named NCCAA Mid-East Region Player of the Year as voted on by region coaches.  Senior Ellen Gray and junior Laura Carroll were also named to the All-Region Team.

Barbee, in her first year at Asbury, led the Eagles with 17.0 points per game and set a school-record with 509 total points.  She was also second on the team with 6.2 rebounds per game and led the team with 57 steals and was third with 61 assists.  Barbee led the region in points per game.  The Detroit native is the first Eagle to be named Region Player of the Year.

Ellen Gray was named to the 1st-Team All-Region after a senior campaign averaging 14.0 points per game and shooting 50 percent (98-for-196) from three-point range.  The guard led both the NAIA and the NCCAA in three-point percentage, setting a school-record for season three-point percentage, season three-pointers made, career three-point percentage and career three-pointers made.  The Owensboro native leaves the Eagles with the record for career games played and second all-time in scoring with 1,280 points. 

Junior Laura Carroll was voted on the 2nd-Team All-Region after posting 12.8 points per game and 3.9 assists per game.  Carroll also connected on 91.8 percent of her free throw attempts, tops in the NCCAA. 

All three players were voted to the KIAC All-Conference team as the Eagles set school-records with an 18-13 overall record and a 9-2 mark in the KIAC.  Asbury claimed their first KIAC Regular Season Title, sharing it with Indiana Southeast.  This was Asbury’s first season over .500 ever.
