Asbury Wins School Record 16th Game

Trenia BarbeeWILMORE, Ky. – A tie game at the half turned into a blowout win for Asbury on Tuesday night, 75-55 over Berea.  The game was tied at 32-32 at the half and Berea would hold the lead as late as 15:25 left.

Asbury (16-10, 8-1) has won five straight, just one away from tying the school record of six.  The Eagles would slowly build an 11-point lead with nine minutes remaining and from there pushed the lead out to 20.

Trenia Barbee led all scorers with 19 points on nine-of-21 shooting.  The junior just missed a double-double with nine rebounds and also had a team-high five assists.  She was joined in double-figures by three teammates: Ellen Gray (16), Ellie Steiner (14) and Lakin Griffith (11).  Gray and Steiner each hit four three-pointers as the team made nine-of-21.  Griffith pulled down eight rebounds.

Berea (6-18, 3-6 KIAC) was led by Maegan Walker’s double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.  The Mountaineers shot 37.5 percent while the Eagles weren’t much better at 38.2 percent.  The difference came in the turnover department.  Asbury gave it up only 10 times while forcing Berea into 23.

Asbury can secure a share of the KIAC Regular Season Title with a win at Brescia on Friday or at home next Tuesday against Alice Lloyd.  They will win it outright by winning both or with a win and another loss by Indiana Southeast.

The 16 wins for the Eagles are a school record and the eight conference wins are also a school record.  Asbury have also secured a .500 record for the first time in the program’s 21st year.
