Eagles Pick up First Win of Season

Lakin GriffithBEREA, Ky. – Asbury women’s basketball picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Mid-Continent University 75-50 at Berea’s Seabury Center in the Berea Tip-off Classic.  The Eagles lost to Marian (Ind.) on Friday in the classic.

Asbury (1-2) improved their shooting from Friday night to shoot 47% from the floor on Saturday.  The Eagles were eight-of-20 from long range as Kayla Bargo knocked down three of her own from distance.  Bargo would finish with nine points.

Trenia Barbee made her first start of the season and led the team for the third straight game in scoring, with 13 points and four assists.  Joining her in double-figures for the first time this year was Lakin Griffith with 11 points.  She would also grab eight rebounds.  Chelsea Williams stuffed the box score with seven points, six assists and a game-high 10 rebounds. 

Mid-Continent would shoot only 37% from the floor and were only eight-of-30 from three-point range.  They were led by Heather George and Holli Daily with 14 points each.

Asbury led by 13 at halftime, taking a 49-36 lead to the break.  The Eagles would score only 26 points in the second half, shooting only 37%.  They shot 57% in the first half.

Asbury will play an exhibition contest against Morehead State University on Monday at 6 p.m. and will head back into regular season action next weekend as they take part in the Moody Bible College Classic in Chicago.
