Eagles Drop Second Straight

BEREA, Ky. – Asbury women dropped their second straight to open the season, 77-64 on Friday night to Marian (Ind.).  The Knights made it to the second round of the NAIA tournament last year.

For the second straight game the Eagles (0-2) were led by Trenia Barbee off the bench with 13 points.  Barbee was only six-of-16 from the floor, which was the story of the game for Asbury.  The Eagles shot only 34.7% from the floor in the game and were only four-for-19 from long range.  Laura Carroll and Ellie Steiner were also in double-figures with 10 points each.

Marian (1-0) had four players in double-digits, highlighted by Rachel Turk’s 19 points.  Lakin Griffith and Barbee led all players with seven rebounds for the Eagles as Asbury out-rebounded the Knights 45-36, but Marian would shoot nearly 52% from the floor on the night.

Asbury will take on Mid-Continent University on Saturday at 3 p.m. in their final game at the Berea Tip-off Classic.
