Women's Basketball Picked Fourth in KIAC

BEREA, Ky. – The 2011-2012 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic conference preseason women’s basketball poll was released Friday, October 21st by KIAC officials. Asbury was picked to finish fourth out of seven teams with the defending regular season and conference tournament champion, Indiana University Southeast, selected in the top spot.

Asbury took a step back last year with a 12-19 overall record and a 4-9 record inside the KIAC.  They were knocked out in the first round of the KIAC Tournament by Alice Lloyd.  The Eagles have never finished with a .500 record overall or in the KIAC and look to change that this year.  The KIAC coaches tabbed Indiana University Southeast as the top team in the conference with five first-place votes and 44 total points. The Grenadiers finished the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record. They went on to win the conference tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

Alice Lloyd College sits in the second spot in the preseason poll with one first-place vote and 36 total points. Brescia University is projected third with 35 points. Asbury is fourth with 32 points, followed by Midway College (22 points), Berea College (20 points) and St. Louis College of Pharmacy (7 points).

The Eagles take to the court for the first time on Friday October 28th at St. Catharine at 7:30 p.m.  The home opener is scheduled for November 15th against Kentucky Christian.
