Women's Basketball Season Ends in Pippa Passes

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – Asbury’s women’s basketball team finished their season with a 94-77 loss to Alice Lloyd on Tuesday night in the first round of the KIAC Tournament.  The Eagles finish the season 12-19, they were 4-9 in KIAC action.

Sophomore guard Laura Carroll led the Eagles with 31 points on Tuesday.  Carroll was 11-for-20 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.  She finishes the season with 487 points, five behind the school record of 492 set by Courtney Albin in the 2008-09 season.  Carroll has now scored 779 points in her two years and could become the 7th member of the 1,000 point club next year.

Another sophomore Lakin Griffith recorded 26 points and 11 rebounds on Tuesday against ALC, giving her 12 double-doubles on the season, which is tied for third most in the KIAC.  Griffith and Carroll combined to score 57 of the team’s 77 points, and no other player scored more than five.

The Eagles struggled shooting the ball early, hitting only 38% of their shots in the first half.  They also were cold from outside as they made only 3-of-14 from three-point range.  Alice Lloyd shot 52% for the game and over 60% in the second half.  They also hit on 10-of-18 from long distance.

Asbury played this entire season without a senior on the roster.  Everyone is eligible to return next year, and the Eagles are expected to get back four players who were lost for the season due to injury.
