Carroll's 27 Leads by Cincinnati Christian
WILMORE, Ky. – This time around the Asbury women were able to hold on to their lead, sweeping the season series with Cincinnati Christian with an 85-72 victory on Tuesday night. The Eagles had lost their previous two games after holding second half leads.
No one could stop Laura Carroll on this night as the sophomore guard poured in 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting. She missed only one of eight from the foul line and dished out three assists. The Eagles handed out 18 assists on 29 made field goals.
For the second time in three games the Eagles (11-16, 3-7 KIAC) held a lead from the opening tap, and on Tuesday they were able to finish. They lost in the final five seconds against Midway a week ago. Against CCU (18-7, 6-5 KIAC), Asbury was able to keep their lead at a comfortable distance for most of the second half. The Eagles had a double-digit lead for the final 13 minutes.
Lakin Griffith recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and five rebounds. This is the second time she’s recorded a double-double against CCU this year and her second straight overall. Ellen Gray was also in double figures with 12 points, the junior guard knocked down all three of her threes in the first half.
Heather Hassloch led CCU with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Alexis Scott added 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Eagles will travel to Owensboro on Saturday to battle Brescia as the Eagles continue to position themselves for the postseason. Asbury currently sits sixth in the KIAC, four games behind Brescia in second place and six behind IUS. The Eagles have three regular season games remaining.
