Eagles win third straight

GRAYSON, Ky. – The Eagles won their third straight in the Super 8 Classic hosted by Kentucky Christian, beating Atlanta Christian 64-53 on Saturday.  For the third straight game Asbury was led by a double-double from a post player, and the second time in that stretch Lakin Griffith provided it.

Griffith’s 10 points and 10 rebounds was the third double-double of the season for the sophomore and eighth of her career.  Despite struggling from the field (3-11) Griffith was able to get the line (4-6) and also grabbed four offensive rebounds.  Griffith was also tied for the team lead with three assists.

Asbury (3-4) is riding a three game winning streak after dropping their first four, and all have been on the road.  Ellen Gray led the Eagles with 11 points on Saturday, knocking down three threes for the second straight game.  Gray has been limited so far this year due to a nagging ankle injury.

All 11 players that played scored for the Eagles as Asbury played their third game in three days, they also played a jv game prior to their 12 pm tip on Saturday.  Asbury shot 40% from the floor and knocked down eight threes while Atlanta Christian shot 36% and made only four threes.  Asbury cut down on their turnovers, committing only 17 and forcing 23.  Gray had three of the team’s 12 steals.

Asbury’s road trip continues next week as they travel to Barbourville to take on Union College on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.  They will also play an exhibition at Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday before finally opening up at home on Monday November 22nd against St. Catharine.
