Women's Basketball Schedule Released
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury has released their women’s basketball schedule for the 2010-11 season as announced by Head Coach Bart Flener. The Eagles will open the season on the road for the first eight regular season games and two exhibitions. The home opener will be November 22nd against St. Catherine College.
Asbury will play 11 home games in their 20th season, highlighted by the Pritchett/Zweifel Classic on December 10th and 11th. The Eagles will play Tennessee Wesleyan and Cincinnati-Clermont during the Classic, Kentucky Christian University will be the fourth participant.
The Eagles will travel to Puerto Rico for the first time in school history in December to play University of the Sacred Heart and Metropolitan University, both schools are located in San Juan. Asbury will also play a NCAA Division I opponent for the first time when they take on Western Carolina University in an exhibition contest on November 5th in Cullowhee, N.C. The Eagles will also play an exhibition game against Kentucky Wesleyan University, a NCAA II school, on November 18th in Owensboro, Ky.
Coach Flener’s squad will open up on October 29th against Bethel University (Tenn.), a former KIAC school that went to the second round of the NAIA Division I National Tournament last year. The Eagles will also play Freed-Hardeman on October 30th who went to the second round of the NAIA Division I National Tournament as well. Both schools are members of the Tran-South Conference.
Asbury is still looking for their first winning season as they enter their 20th year of women’s basketball. Last year’s team finished 14-17 overall and 6-7 in the KIAC, losing in the second round of the conference tournament to eventual champion Indiana Southeast.
