Flener Adds Five For 2010-11
Wilmore, Ky. – Asbury University women’s basketball Head Coach Bart Flener has announced the signing of five players to his 2010-11 class, Brislyn Sizemore (Richmond, Ky. / Madison Central HS), Brittany Flowers (Albany, Ky. / Clinton Co.), Lacey Alley (Monticello, Ky. / Monticello HS), Kayla Bargo (London, Ky. / North Laurel HS), and Cari McMullen (Paducah, Ky. / Community Christian Academy).
The five signees brings the total class to seven with Hilary Jones and Sam Burr already committed. Brislyn Sizemore played for coach Robert Cooksey at Madison Central, playing six years on the varsity squad. She was selected to the All-District team in each of her four high school years, 2007-2010. A 6-0 center, Sizemore will add needed interior presence to a team that struggled in the post last season.
Flowers is a 5-10 guard who spent five years on the Bulldogs varsity squad under coach Blake Button. Flowers scored over 1,500 points in her career, finishing fourth in school history. Flowers set a school record with 45 points in a single game and also has a school record with 19 made free-throws in a single game. She was named to the 4th Region 2nd Team, All-Tournament Team, and All-A Classic Team, as well as the 16th District Team. As a senior Flowers scored 532 points, grabbed 6.2 rebounds per game, and shot 39% from 3-point range and 80% from the free-throw line. She will add depth to a young but talented back court.
Another 5-10 guard, Lacey Alley also spent five years on the Monticello High School varsity team under Marla Kelsch. Alley was selected to be part of the 12th Region Senior All-Star team after leading the Trojans to an 18-13 record and to the 12th Region Semi-Finals. She was an All-District, All-District Tournament, and All-Region Tournament selection. Alley led her team in scoring, rebounds, blocks, and 3-point percentage as a senior and was named team MVP. She was also an All-District selection as a junior and led the team in 3-point shooting and free throw percentage. Not only an athlete, Alley was an honor roll student all four years of high school.
Bargo joins the Eagles after playing both basketball and soccer at North Laurel High School. A 5-8 guard, Bargo was a four time 49th All-District Tournament Team selection (2006-2009), a 13th Region Senior All-Star and a 13th Region Second Team selection. After a career at North Laurel scoring over 1,000 points Bargo spent last year away from basketball at Transylvania University. She will have four years of eligibility remaining.
McMullen will not only join the women’s basketball team at Asbury but also play volleyball for coach JP Rader. The 5-9 forward was a three sport athlete (also played tennis) at Community Christian Academy, leading the Warriors to an 18-9 record in 2009-10. McMullen averaged 20 points and 9.9 rebounds a game as a senior and holds the school record for career points (1,649) and rebounds (978). She was named to the 4th District All-Tournament Team, 1st Region All-A Classic Tournament twice, and the 2010 All-Purchase Team by the Paducah Sun. Despite playing three sports McMullen was a Kentucky Governors Scholar, Junior Rotarian, Valedictorian, and National Honors Society member.
