Flener Signs Burr, Jones
Asbury University women’s basketball coach Bart Flener has announced the signings of Hilary Jones from Hancock County High School and Sam Burr from Williamsburg High School. Jones and Burr are the first two to sign-on for Flener’s third year at the helm in 2010-2011.
Jones is a 5’9 guard/forward from Lewisport, Ky. who scored over 1,000 points in her four-year career for the Hornets. As a senior she averaged 20.1 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. Jones was named All-3rd Region First Team by the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer and was a member of the All-A Tournament Team.
A deadly threat from the outside, Jones was one of the best shooters in the state as she knocked down 44% from beyond the arc. She scored a career high 44 points against Breckinridge County in December. Jones is also a talented student achieving a 3.9 GPA, ranking sixth in her class.
Burr is a 5’9 wing/forward from Williamsburg, Ky. who spent the last five years on the Jackets’ varsity squad. She was twice her team’s leading scorer, as she eclipsed 1,000 career points, and was also the team’s leading rebounder.
In 17 of 28 games she recorded a double-double. Burr was an 84.5% free-throw shooter in high school. She was named to the 13th Region All-A Tournament Team twice, Bowman Memorial Tournament Team, and the Rick Bollus & All Good Hoop Fall Showcase Tournament Team. She was also a member of the Beta Club, and played softball and ran track.
