IUS Ends Eagles' Season

Frankfort, Ky. - Asbury's season came to end in the semi-finals of the KIAC Tournament on Friday to the top seeded Grenadiers of Indiana Southeast 52-41 in the Frankfort Convention Center.  The Eagles tried their best to limit the Grenadiers' chances but ultimately couldn't score themselves.

Asbury (14-17) controlled the first half but surrendered their lead late and went into the locker room down 18-13.  The Eagles could never recover from the late first half Grenadier surge.  Both teams kept the game ugly throughout as the Eagles shot only 26% and the Grenadiers only 34%.

Asbury had trouble shooting from the outside and scoring inside.  Asbury hit on four-of-12 three point attempts, two coming in the final four minutes.  When Asbury was to penetrate the defense they had trouble with the taller players as IUS blocked seven shots.

Courtney Albin (Hartford, Ky.) led the Eagles with 17 points on five-of-10 shooting.  Albin was the lone Eagle scorer in double-figures and one of the only two to eclipse 10 points in the game.  Ashmere Woods led all scorers for IUS with 18 points.

Asbury was able to stay close and lead early thanks in large part to their rebounding.  Lakin Griffith (Sandy Hook, Ky.) pulled down a career high 17 rebounds.  The Eagles only had 33 rebounds in the game.  The Grenadiers barely won the rebounding battle 35-33 despite having a height advantage.

The Eagles season comes to an end just one win shy of last year's record breaking 15 wins.  The 29 wins in consecutive seasons in the most in program history.  The Eagles will only lose one senior off of this year's team in Sarah Yates and will look for their first season above .500 next year.
