Wilmore, Ky. - The Asbury women outscored Alice Lloyd 45-29 in both halves en route to a 90-58 victory over the visiting Lady Eagles. Asbury scored 51 points off the bench for the second time this season against Alice Lloyd on Thursday night.
All 14 players saw the court for Asbury (12-12, 5-5 KIAC) and 12 scored led by Dorian Downs (Elizabethtown, Ky.) with 18. Downs hit five threes for the third time this season in helping the Eagles to their straight win. The streak ties a season-best which last happened back in November. Ashlea Hollon (Winchester, Ky.) came off the bench to score a season-high 13 points as she knocked down three from beyond the arc. Asbury connected on 13-of-32 from long range.
Lakin Griffith (Sandy Hook, Ky.) continued her strong play inside for the Eagles as she pulled down her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Griffith has now scored in double-figures in seven of 10 KIAC contests including six of the last seven.
Asbury jumped all over Alice Lloyd (8-14, 4-6) from the start with ball hawking defense and full court pressure that forced 16 first half turnovers. Asbury would force 30 turnovers for the game while only turning it over 10 times. Alice Lloyd shot 45% from the floor when they kept the ball while the Eagles shot slightly worse at 42%. Asbury continued to attack the rim all night as they went to the free throw line 28 times in the game, they made 21.
Asbury climbs back to .500 on the season, the first time since January 12th when they were 7-7, as Coach Flener's team strives to be the first team in program history with a winning record. The Eagles have two more home games before finishing the season on a three game road trip.
The Eagles currently sit in 3rd place in the KIAC with a 5-5 mark and host Indiana-Southeast who has already locked up the #1 seed in the KIAC Tournament with a 10-1 record in conference play. That game will take place on Saturday February 13th at 6:00 pm with the guys' directly after.
