Second Half Dooms Eagles

Box Score

Wilmore, Ky. - The Asbury women couldn't hold a seven point halftime lead and fell to Midway 83-78 on Thursday night.  Midway pulled down 22 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second half points as they rallied in the second half.

Asbury (7-8, 1-1 KIAC) got hot from beyond the arc in the first half, canning seven-of-11.  The Eagles would cool off in the second half hitting on only two-of-nine from three.  In the second half Midway shot nearly 60% from the floor as they continued to pound the ball inside and get shots in the paint.

Courtney Albin (Hartford, Ky.) led the Eagles with 24 points including four threes and all eight free throw attempts.  She also pulled down seven rebounds.  Dorian Downs added 13 points and Laura Carroll chipped in with 10 points and five assists.  Lakin Griffith led the Eagles with nine rebounds.

Asbury had their chances late in the game as Midway hit only 12-of-21 free throws in the second half, but a costly lane violation and missed shots doomed Asbury.  Downs was at the line with 1:20 left and Asbury down by four, she hit the first and second but a lane violation was called on Asbury during the second attempt.  Instead of being down two the Eagles were still down three.

Midway was led by Whitney Odom, who poured in 22 points and Kayla Shull who add a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  Erica Smiley was also in double figures with 14.

Asbury will take the weekend off before traveling to Berea on Tuesday January 19 for a double-header with the guys.  The girls are scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 pm with the guys to directly follow.
