Eagles Can't Handle Madden, Berea
Berea, Ky. - The Asbury women just couldn't grab a hold of the lead and keep it against the Berea College Lady Mountaineers on Tuesday night in the Seabury Center on Berea's campus, losing 84-72. Annbruce Madden of Berea poured in 42 points and hit 14-of-19 shots from the floor and 13-of-14 from the free throw line.
Asbury (7-9, 1-2 KIAC) turned the ball over 29 times as Berea turned the pressure up. Lyndsay Figgins (Independence, Ky.) led the Eagles with 19 points off the bench. The freshman knocked down three threes en route to her career high. Three other Eagles scored in double figures, Courtney Albin with 12, and Lakin Griffith and Ellen Gray added 10 each.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball as Asbury hit on only 38% of their shots and Berea was only at 41%. Asbury hit seven-of-25 threes and Berea made six-of-19. The Eagles won the battle on the boards, grabbing 41 off the glass as Berea brought down 38. Asbury made a team effort to box out and as a result no Eagle grabbed more than six. Sarah Yates and Lyndsay Figgins each pulled down half a dozen each.
These two teams will meet again in Wilmore on February 16th on Senior Day at 6:00 pm. The Eagles will be in action again on Saturday January 23rd at 6:00 pm.
