Asbury Earns First KIAC Victory

Wilmore, Ky. - The Asbury women jumped out to a 13 point halftime before holding on for a 91-84 win over Cincinnati Christian in Asbury's first KIAC game of the season.  The Eagles went to the line 34 times on the night and knocked down 27.

Asbury (7-7, 1-0 KIAC) continued to take the ball to the rim the entire game and forced CCU to send the Eagles to the line.  Freshman Laura Carroll (Paintsville, Ky.) led a balanced attack with 18 points and five assists.  Hayley Spivey (Harrodsburg, Ky.) came off the bench to score 16 and Lyndsay Figgins (Independence, Ky.) added 12.  Dorian Downs (Elizabethtown, Ky.) knocked down two of the Eagles' six threes and finished with 11 points.

The Eagles have struggled with rebounding on the season and were able to pull down 48 compared to 43 for CCU.  Lakin Griffith pulled down a team high eight and Figgins came away with seven.  Asbury shot 43% while CCU shot 42% from the floor.  Each team hit six threes in the game with Asbury taking 17 attempts and CCU 19.

The Eagles pushed their lead up to 18 at 63-45 with 12 minutes remaining in the game, but CCU rallied and cut it to seven with six minutes left.  There were five lead changes in the game, all coming in the first half.

Asbury will host Midway College on Thursday January 14th at 7:30 pm.
