Mountaineers Spoil Eagles Hope of .500 Record

Berea, KY---Asbury's goal to reach .500 on the season for the first time in school history came up just short as the women fell in their regular season finale to Berea College Saturday February 21st 109-102.

Asbury (14-16, 4-5 KIAC) ended the season winning eight of their last ten games, this winning streak came directly after the team lost 11 of 13.  The Eagles will be the #4 seed in the KIAC Tournament that begins Thursday February 26th

Asbury gave a valiant effort in trying to upset Berea at home, the 102 points are the most the Eagles have scored all season.  Freshmen Courtney Albin led the way with 25 points and a career high 14 rebounds.  Asbury would also get career high point totals from freshmen Hayley Spivey, 24 points, and freshmen Christy Gemmell, 17 points, in the loss.

Asbury shot 50.6% for the game, only the fourth time all season they have been over 50% in a game.  They out rebounded the Mountaineers 52-47, but Berea would hit 16 3-pointers in the game, albeit in 51 attempts that would prove the difference on this night.

Asbury went on a 13-0 run to close to 103-100 with less than a minute remaining but Berea would hit free throws down the stretch to pull out the seven point victory.

Asbury will open the KIAC Tournament Thursday at 6pm against Midway College at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.
