Eagles Upset #1 Lady Knights
Wilmore, KY---Kentucky Christian's Kelsie Thrasher would miss an alley-oop inside the final two seconds as the Asbury College women's basketball team knocked off the #1 team in NCCAA Division at the Luce Center 62-60 Tuesday night.
Asbury (13-15) was led by a trio of freshmen, Courtney Albin had 19 points, and Hayley Spivey and Ellen Gray added 15 each. Albin, Spivey and senior Anna Stephenson would lead the team with six rebounds each. Stephenson added nine points as only six players scored for the Eagles.
The Eagles were down by six at halftime after leading most of the first half. They responded by shooting 52% in the second half after 29% in the first. They would hold the Lady Knights to 31% shooting in the second half after torching the nets at 54% before intermission.
Asbury has now won seven of eight and still holds hope for the first .500 season in school history. Asbury will host Midway Thursday February 19th at 6pm for senior day before hitting the road Saturday February 21st to close out the regular season against Berea at 2pm. The KIAC Tournament will begin Thursday February 26th for both the men and women in Pippa Passes, Kentucky at Alice Lloyd College.
