Eagles Win 2 of 3 on Weekend

Grayson, KY---The Asbury College women's basketball team went 2-1 at the Super 8 Classic at Kentucky Christian University this weekend. The Eagles lost to the host Knights on Thursday 71-62, before bouncing back with victories over Southeastern University (FL) 61-48 Friday and Lincoln Christian College 96-40 on Saturday.

Asbury (4-3) was led by senior Anna Stephenson on Thursday with 16 points and four rebounds. Freshmen Hanna Blankenship and Courtney Albin chipped in with 12 a piece. The Eagles only had six assists in the contest and 17 turnovers.

On Friday Asbury 23 points from Ellen Gray on 8-14 shooting, including 5-10 from 3-point range. Albin joined her classmate in double figures with 13. The Eagles forced 36 turnovers including 19 steals. Stephenson and Albin each had seven steals. Albin also led the team with four assists, and was tied with Stephenson with five rebounds.

Saturday the Eagles raced out to a 44-26 halftime lead despite playing without Stephenson who was sidelined with an ankle injury. Asbury had 12 players score and five in double figures. Freshmen Ashlea Hollon led the team with 15 points, knocking down three 3's in her 18 minutes. Blankenship and Albin each had 11 points, and sophomore Booke Jensen and freshmen Sarah Taber added 10 each. Asbury's defense again stepped up big forcing 34 turnovers and had 17 steals.

Asbury won't play again until next weekend when they will play two games at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. The Eagles will take on Hanover College at 6pm on Friday and take on the host Pioneers Saturday at 4pm.
