Eagles Get Revenge on Cavs, Rams
Wilmore, KY----The Asbury College women's basketball team got revenge on UVA-Wise and Bluefield College at the Asbury Classic over the weekend. The Eagles lost their first two games of the season on the road to both teams, before coming home and beating each of them.
Asbury (2-2) beat UVA-Wise 84-69 Friday night after losing to the Cavs the week before 44-73. The Eagles got a big game from freshmen Ellen Gray who had 26 points on 9 of 13 shooting in 26 minutes. Senior Anna Stephenson had 18 points and nine rebounds, freshmen Hanna Blankenship and Courtney Albin were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Saturday the Eagles needed overtime to defeat the Ramblin' Rams from Bluefield 75-70. The Eagles blew a late lead but were able to rally in the extra session to secure the win. Once again Gray led the team with 20 points including knocking down five 3-pointers. Stephenson had her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Albin was in double figures again with 12, and fellow freshmen Christy Gemmell had 14 points.
The Eagles will head to Kentucky Christian University this weekend for a three day, three game classic. Asbury will take on the host KCU on Thursday at 6pm, then Southeastern University Friday at 4pm, and finally Lincoln Christian College Saturday at 12pm. Asbury won't return home until December 5th and 6th when they host the Rita Pritchett Classic.
