Women's basketball falls in fight for KIAC first place at Midway, 61-53
Midway, KY - Down 31-20 in the first half, Asbury rallied over the first 12 minutes of the second half to tie the game at 45, but Midway College would crash the offensive glass down the stretch, helping them earn first place in the KIAC with a 61-53 win last night.
Asbury was led in scoring by Anna Stephenson with 14 points, joined by Lindsey Wood in double-figures with 13. Key to the outcome was a 55-38 rebounding advantage for Midway, including 11 offensive rebounds for the Eagles from Midway after the 45-45 tie. The rebounds positioned Midway with a 57-53 lead with :47 left. Wood's attempted three-pointer went off rim and out of bounds, forcing Asbury to foul where Stephenson picked up her fifth with only :35 left.
The loss moves Asbury to 3-2 in the KIAC, 10-10 on the season. The women will next be in action against Spalding this Saturday in Louisville at 2:00 p.m. before coming home for a crucial conference game with IU-Southeast on Tuesday, February 5th.
