WBB shoots past UC-Clermont 79-64

Wilmore, Ky. - Asbury blistered the nets in the first-half, shooting 66.7 percent (16-24) from the field en route to a 42-24 lead that they would never relinquish down the stretch in a 79-64 win over Cincinnati-Clermont. The win is the second of the season over the Cougars after the Eagles began their season with a 68-66 win back on November 2nd.

The blistering shooting was led by Brittany Abbott who was nearly flawless from the field, going 7-of-8 from the field, including a perfect 4-of-4 from both behind the arc and the free throw line. Abbott led all scorers with 22 points and was joined in double figures by Anna Stephenson and Lindsey Wood who each scored 16 points. Combined the trio shot 17-of-31 from the field, 8-of-11 from three, and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.

The Eagles held their largest lead in the game early in the second half at 50-24 before Clermont would close the gap to nine at 71-62 with 1:55 remaining on back-to-back threes by Darlene Carroll and Nicole Bond. The Eagles then responded in turn by sinking their next six free throw attempts as the Cougars fouled to extend the game.

The win moves Asbury to 5-6 on the season with tomorrow's game against Mid-Continent in the second day of the Rita Pritchett Classic. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m., immediately following the Alice Lloyd - Cincinnati-Clermont game at 1:00 p.m. After tomorrow, the team will next be at home next Saturday against St. Mary's of the Woods at 2:00 p.m. The game is the final game of the 2007 portion of the season as the team will break for the Christmas holiday.
