Late call sends women to loss against IUS, 55-52
Asbury trailed the entire game until two Sarah Yates free throws gave the Eagles a 52-50 lead with 1:37 to play. IUS responded by getting a three-point play by Andrea Chambers, reclaiming the lead, and would hold on for the win after getting two more free throws and making a block on a Lindsey Wood three-point attempt at the buzzer.
Wood, Yates, and Anna Stephenson led the way for the Eagles with 10 points apiece. Jenny Bunge came off the bench to lead Asbury in rebounding with 13 boards in 22 minutes of game time. The loss drops Asbury to 11-13 on the season, 2-9 in conference.
The Eagles will wait to know their seed in the KIAC Tournament, to be determined by a coin flip per KIAC bylaws. Asbury and Midway College are tied for fifth place in the conference, but all tiebreakers come up even between the two schools.
Asbury will play their final home game on Saturday, February 17th hosting St. Mary's of the Woods at 2:00. The two teams met earlier in the year, with Asbury coming away with the 59-47 victory. Senior Day activities will be held just prior to tip-off of the game.
