WILMORE. Ky. - Eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson broke Asbury’s ten-game winning streak tonight with a 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-15) defeat of the host Eagles here in Wilmore.
Asbury didn’t let Lindsey Wilson walk out of the Luce without putting up a good a fight first.
The 19-0 Blue Raiders took the first set just 25-23, giving the Eagles an inch of hope against their undefeated opponent. The Eagles actually led 9-4 early in the set before surrendering a late lead to the Raiders.
The next set played nearly a same tune; the Eagles kept it close, but still narrowly lost to the Blue Raiders with a 27-25 score.
Despite the loss, the seniors still put up great numbers. Seniors Catherine Wolter and Allison Rehner racked up 11 and 10 kills, while senior Mackenzie Burke boosted the Eagles with 16 assists. Senior Kelly Cole aided in the defense with 13 digs.
The 16-7 Eagles are now 8-2 at home this season, but will play to bump that 8 into a 10 when they play West Virginia Tech and University of Rio Grande at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Luce.
