Volleyball Collects Win Against Martin Methodist on the Road
PULASKI, Tenn. - The Eagles (6-4) were firing on all cylinders Monday night in Pulaski, Tenn., as they collected their third straight win, 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-13) over Martin Methodist.
The win is also the third in a row for the Eagles in sweeping fashion, as they finished out their weekend in tournament with two 3-0 wins over Bethel (Tenn.) and St. Thomas. In fact, five of the Eagles' six wins this season have been 3-0 victories. Their only other win when dropping a set came in the season opener against Southern Welseyan.
Mackenzie Burke has made herself known since returning to the lineup over the weekend, and Monday night's contest was no different. The senior setter showed that not only can she set up teammates to get kills, but she can hit the ball pretty well off the serve, too. She collected three service aces in the contest.
"We played well tonight building on the momentum from the weekend," fifth year head coach JP Rader said after the game. "Our serving and sideout game was strong. Now, it's time to turn our attention to the conference games starting this week. We are excited to get into conference action starting with IU-East on Thursday."
Rader's team will need to carry this momentum into the conference play as the Eagles have four conference games on the back end of the week starting with Thursday's trip to Indiana University-East on Thursday. On Saturday, the Eagles will host a quad match with Point Park (Pa.)--who is receiving top-25 votes-- and Alice Lloyd and St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
