Cole Named Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American
TOWSON, Md. – Junior libero Kelly Cole was named a second-team of the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Volleyball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An Elementary Education major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Cole was among 19 representatives on the three teams. Three Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes were chosen for the team.
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® volleyball team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Cole was also selected to the KIAC second-team after ranking second in digs per set at 5.2. She finished the season 21st in the NAIA with 696 digs. The Eagles have compiled a 102-28 mark in her three years, the best three-year stretch for the program. Asbury has played for two KIAC Tournament Championships and won two of the last three regular season titles.
The Lexington, Ky. native is a two-time All-KIAC selection and is the first volleyball player to be named Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American.
