NAIA Names Four Asbury Volleyball Players Scholar Athletes
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Friday that 408 volleyball student-athletes have been named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Asbury placed four on the list, up from one a year ago.
Asbury’s four were all juniors as Allison Rehner (Wilmore, Ky.), Cari McMullen (Paducah, Ky.), Catherine Wolter (Huntersville, N.C.) and Kelly Cole (Lexington, Ky.) were all selected. This is the first appearance for all four.
Hastings (Neb.) and Indiana Tech lead all institutions with eight individuals on the list. The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had 17 representatives led by Point Park with five.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
