Volleyball Extends Streak to Five
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury volleyball made it five straight matches and 15 straight sets won with a 3-0 defeat of Midway College in KIAC action. The Eagles have won every match since a loss to No. 18 Indiana East on October 13. IUE is their next opponent, on Wednesday in Richmond, Ind.
The Eagles (22-9, 5-3 KIAC) continued their hot hitting, posting a .356 attack percentage in Monday’s match. That is the fifth straight match hitting over .320 and the ninth time this season. It was a very balanced attack against Midway as four players collected at least seven kills. Sarah Sterling led the way with nine kills and a .444 attack percentage, committing only one error in 18 attempts.
Other notable offensive performances include Morgan Newton and Alyssa Downs who each posted eight kills. Newton hit .500 with two errors and 12 attempts while Downs had two errors and 16 attempts. Kaity Bradly had quite possibly the best night with seven kills and no errors on 12 attempts, good for a .583 attack percentage.
The Eagles never faced much of a challenge from Miday (2-22, 1-5 KIAC) who didn’t put up much of a fight. Midway had only 24 kills in the match, compared to Asbury’s 43. Midway hit .053 for the match. Morgan Johnson and ShaKyra Young led Midway with seven kills each.
Asbury put the pressure on with their serves, collecting nine aces for the match. Jessie Bartlow led the way with three aces while Kellianne Crouse and Maddie Lewis each picked up two. Bartlow also added 15 assists while Mackenzie Burke led the way with 20.
The defense came up with 46 digs on the night as Kelly Cole led the way with 16. Cari McMullen added seven and Lewis chipped in with six. Sterling also had five digs and a solo block to go along with her nine kills. The team had five total blocks as Catherine Wolter had four block assists. Middle blockers Morgan Newton and Kaity Bradley each had to block assists.
Asbury will travel to Indiana East for a non-KIAC match on Wednesday. Live video and stats will be available for the match through IUE. First serve is set for 7pm.
