Eagles Reach 20 Wins in Tri-Match Sweep

WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury volleyball made it five straight seasons of 20 or more wins on Saturday, defeating Bethel (Tenn.) 3-0 and Kentucky State 3-0 in a tri-match. The Eagles have only 11 seasons of 20 or more wins in the program’s history.
In the first match Catherine Wolter led the way with 13 kills and hit .360 for the match as the Eagles collected 47 kills on 106 attacks. Asbury hit .321 for the match while the Lady Wildcats hit .204. Alyssa Downs hit .500 with eight kills on 14 attacks for the Eagles. Pollyanna Vitel led Bethel with 13 kills.
Kelly Cole led the defense with 14 digs. The team had 45 compared to Bethel’s 37. Mackenzie Burke led the team with 26 assists as Jessie Barlow added 16.
Game scores for the match were 25-15, 25-21, 26-24.
In the second match the Eagles (21-9) defeated Kentucky State for the second time this season in straight sets. The game scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-11. Alyssa Downs and Sarah Sterling led the Eagles in this match with 10 kills each. The Eagles hit even better at .373 for the match including .440 in the second set. Kaity Bradley and Catherin Wolter each added six kills.
Mackenzie Burke was one of three Eagles to record three service aces in the match. Maddie Lewis and Brittney Rader each had three aces as well. Burke moves into fourth place on the school’s all-time leaderboard for aces with 163. She is only four away from tying Tonya Maupin for third place. Tami Ankeny is the all-time leader with 210.
Burke added 20 assists in the match against Kentucky State and Jessie Bartlow added 15. Kelly Cole collected 13 of the team’s 34 digs as Sterling added a solo and block assist. Morgan Newton had one solo and two block assists along with four kills in the match.
Asbury will be in action again on Friday at 7 pm as they host Midway. Senior day will be held on Friday prior to the last home match of the season against Alice Lloyd at 4 pm.
