Eagles Split Tri-Match

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Asbury volleyball saw their winning streak snapped at 10 but still managed a split in a tri-match at Covenant College.  The Eagles defeated Wesleyan (Ga.) easily in three sets before falling in a heartbreaker to the hosts in five. 

Asbury (14-8) hit .319 against Wesleyan, racking up 34 kills on 69 attacks.  Sarah Sterling led the way with 15 kills and a .560 percentage.  Alyssa Downs had eight kills on nine attempts.  Kelly Cole added 16 digs and Jessie Bartlow and Mackenzie Burke added 14 and 15 assists.  Bartlow added a career-high 11 service aces as the Eagles registered an astounding 21 aces in the match.  Games scores were 25-7, 25-8, 25-10. 

In their second match of the day the Eagles were up two sets to one before falling in five, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 22-25, 13-15.  Catherine Wolter recorded a career-high 19 kills in the match and hit .438.  Brittney Rader and Alyssa Downs added 17 and 11 kills respectively.  Bartlow recorded 29 assists as Burke tallied 28.  Bartlow also added 15 digs, one of four players to reach double digits in digs.  Cole led the team with 26 as Cari McMullen and Maddie Lewis added 11 and 12. 

Asbury will hit the road for three matches during the week before hosting KIAC rivals Indiana East and Carlow in a tri-match on Saturday.
