Eagles Topple Grenadiers
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury returned to .500 for the first time since the first week of the season after a 3-0 victory over Indiana Southeast on Tuesday night. The Eagles are now 7-7. This game did not count in the KIAC standings as the league has reverted to a single round-robin format, the match between these two squads on October 30 will count in the standings.
Catherine Wolter led the balanced attack with eight kills on 13 attacks, good for a .538 percentage. Sarah Sterling and Morgan Newton each added seven kills for the Eagles as the team racked up 39 on the night, 19 in the second set. In that set the Eagles hit a robust .349 but only maintained a .190 percentage for the match.
The Eagles jumped out to big leads in each of the three sets only to have IUS respond, including a run of eight straight points in the third to tie the set at 12-12. Asbury scored nine of the next 11 points and cruised to victory. The Eagles have won three straight and six of eight.
Mackenzie Burke and Jessie Bartlow added 19 and 10 assists on the night for the Eagles’ attack as Kelly Cole recorded 17 digs. Kaity Bradley added two block assists and one solo block for the defense and also had four kills.
Asbury will hit the road for four matches this weekend, first playing two conference matches in a tri-match with Brescia and St. Louis Pharmacy on Friday before heading over to Hanover, Indiana for a tri-match with Hanover and Manchester.
