Nine Asbury Students Named Scholar-Athletes
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced that nine Asbury University student-athletes have been named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes in men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball.
Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
Women’s soccer had five recipients in juniors Sarah Smith (Bethel, N.C.), Caitlyn Figgins (Independence, Ky), Lyndsay Figgins (Independence, Ky.), Emily Lawson (Louisville, Ky.) and graduating junior Erin Sieberkrob (Nicholasville, Ky.). There were 485 total recipients.
Volleyball had only one of the 392 student-athletes honored by the NAIA, senior middle blocker Dena Busse (Holly Lake Ranch, Texas).
Men’s soccer had three student-athletes make the list, seniors Sam Miller (York, Pa.) and Hayes Creech (Seoul, South Korea) and junior John Nichols (Lexington, Ky.).
