Eagles Take Share of KIAC Title

Dena BusseWILMORE, Ky. – For the second straight year and the third time in four years, Asbury’s volleyball program owns a share of the KIAC Regular Season Championship.  The Eagles swept Brescia (25-11, 25-13, 25-11) to wrap up a tie with Indiana East.  Asbury would go on to defeat Kentucky State in three (25-21, 25-19, 25-15) later on Saturday.

Asbury (26-6, 14-1 KIAC) hit at least .400 in every set against Brescia and finished with a .427 mark and 42 kills.  Lindsay Ibold led the Eagles with 10 kills and two block assists.  Dena Busse and Allison Rehner would add nine kills of their own as well. 

Sarah Sterling would record seven kills and 10 digs.  Kelly Cole would add nine digs as Brescia would hit negative .075 for the match.  Mackenzie Burke would rack up 29 assists and Jessie Bartlow would add 11 of her own.

In the second match of the day the Eagles would hit only .238 for the match as Allsion Rehner recorded a match-high 10 kills.  She would also add one solo block and two block assists.  Ibold would add eight kills and one solo and one block assist. 

The Eagles would improve in each set, hitting only .154 in the first and finishing with a .312 mark in the third set.  Kentucky State would hit only .078 for the match.

Both Burke and Bartlow would record 17 assists in the match as the Eagles racked up 39 kills.  Cole would bounce back with 14 digs as the team would get to 48 balls.

Asbury finishes KIAC play with a 14-1 league mark, an identical record to Indiana East who they split two regular season meetings with.  The Eagles will be the top seed in the KIAC Tournament hosted by IUE next weekend due to a better overall winning percentage.  They will play the winner of the Brescia-Berea match on Friday November 11th at 3 pm.
