Eagles Claim Region Title, Advances to NCCAA Nationals

Asbury VolleyballOAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The volleyball team will be heading to the NCCAA National Tournament for just the second time in school history after capturing the Mid-East Region Tournament on Friday.  The Eagles defeated Oakland City in the semis 3-1 and beat Trevecca Nazarene for the second time in two days 3-1 to capture the crown.

Asbury (42-7) would improve to 10-2 in four set matches after winning three during the tournament.  They would also defeat Trevecca in pool play on Thursday in four.  The Eagles defeated Covenant College 3-0 in pool play on Thursday as well.

It was Allison Rehner who would lead the charge for most of the tournament, racking up 44 kills in the four matches including 12 in the semis and 13 in the finals.  The sophomore had 15 kills against Trevecca on Thursday.  Freshman Sarah Sterling would register 20 kills on Friday and 39 during the four matches.

The Eagles will head to Kissimmee, Fla. for the 10-team tournament that starts on December 1.  More details will be given as soon as the rest of the field is announced and game times are set.
