Eagles Advance in KIAC Tournament
RICHMOND, Ind. – The Asbury volleyball team had little resistance as they advanced on the first day of the KIAC Tournament with a three-set sweep of Brescia University on Friday afternoon. The Eagles allowed only 25 points in the three sets and racked up 36 kills.
Asbury (37-6) will play in the semi-finals on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Indiana Southeast, who earlier in the day beat Mountain State 3-1. Asbury beat the Grenadiers in both meetings this year, 3-1 at IUS and 3-0 at home.
On Friday, the Eagles hit .435 for the match, committing only six errors. Dena Busse led all players with 10 kills, hitting .529 and Lindsay Ibold hit 1.000 for the match with eight kills in eight attempts.
Asbury would also record 13 service aces, their third-highest total of the season. Sarah Sterling would lead the way with four as four other Eagles recorded at least two. Kelly Cole added 11 of the team’s 30 digs and Mackenzie Burke recorded 23 assists. Busse would add one solo and three block assists as Allison Rehner racked up four block assists and Ibold had three.
Asbury has played in the KIAC Championship match in each of the last four seasons and can make it five straight with a win over IUS on Saturday. They have faced Indiana East in each of the last three years. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available for all matches.
