Asbury Rolls Past Berea
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury volleyball again rolled to a 3-0 sweep on Monday night, taking down another KIAC opponent in Berea 25-15, 25-13, 25-11. The Eagles have won eight straight overall and 20 straight regular season conference matches.
Brittney Rader led the team with nine kills as the Eagles (21-4, 6-0 KIAC) needed only 31 to defeat Berea. Allison Rehner added eight kills of her own on 13 attacks and had no errors. Asbury hit .417 for the match, marking the sixth time this year they have hit over .400. The Eagles came into the match 16th in the NAIA in attack percentage at .273.
Dena Busse led the team with four service aces, the second most by an Eagle this year, as the team racked up 12, also the second most this season. Busse would add three kills and a block to her stat line. Lindsay Ibold added six kills and four solo blocks on the night, now giving her 1,005 for her career. She is only the eighth Eagle to eclipse 1,000 kills and is only seven behind former teammate Tina Marye (1,012) for seventh on the all-time school list and only eight behind Becca Blaine (1,013) for sixth. Setter Mackenzie Burke added 17 assists and two service aces as libero Kelly Cole dug a team-best nine balls and also had three aces.
The Eagles improved to 15-0 in three set matches this year and in the process won the second set for the 23rd time in 25 matches. They have also won 17 straight matches away from the Luce Center. Asbury will put that streak on the line as they head to Midway on Thursday. Asbury beat Midway 3-0 earlier this year at home. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
