Streaks Snapped as Lindsey Wilson Takes Down Eagles

WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury snapped several streaks on Tuesday night, losing to Lindsey Wilson in four sets, 25-15, 17-25, 25-12, 25-22.  By the end of the first set, Asbury’s 34 set win streak was history and by the end of the night so was their 12 match winning streak and their 12 match home winning streak.

Asbury (13-4) was uncharacteristically off with their attack for most of the night, hitting only .160 for the match.  They came in with a .314 attack percentage for the season.  Brittney Rader and Dena Busse led the Eagles with 11 and 10 kills.

Lindsey Wilson (14-1) used a 7-0 run midway through the first set to jump out to an 18-8 lead the Eagles could never recover from.  Asbury would return the favor in the second set with their own 7-0 run to turn a 7-6 match into a 14-6 affair.

In the third set Asbury would have a 9-8 lead but LWC would take 12 of the next 15 points to take a 19-12 lead.  The fourth set would basically encompass the previous three sets into one.  Asbury went on a 7-0 run to make it 15-7, then the Blue Raiders would answer with their own 9-0 run to make it 19-16.  Asbury would rally to tie it at 19 and the teams would trade points until a 22-22 deadlock.  Lindsey Wilson would take control after a ball handling error on the Eagles and closed out the final three points.

Lindsey Wilson was led by Sarah Anderson’s 16 kills.  Kirsten King was also in double-digits with 10.  Andrea Taylor racked up 34 assists and 14 digs along with King.

Asbury’s two setters, Mackenzie Burke and Jessie Bartlow each tallied 19 assists on the night.  Kelly Cole wound up with 19 of the team’s 59 digs.

The Eagles will hit the road on Wednesday to play at Spalding University in Louisville for a 7 p.m. first serve.
