Eagles Take 17th Straight KIAC Match

Asbury VolleyballWILMORE, Ky. – Asbury volleyball had little opposition on their way to their 17th straight victory over KIAC foes, sweeping Cincinnati Christian 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-14) on Thursday night.  The Eagles have rebounded to win five in a row after suffering a loss last week to Lindsey Wilson.

Asbury (18-4, 5-0 KIAC) pounded out 35 kills on the night on their way to hitting .284 as a team.  They had double-digit kills in each of the three sets highlighted by a 13 kill two error effort in the third.  Cincinnati Christian (11-5, 5-2 KIAC) hit .094 on the night and had 11 errors in the first set alone.

The Eagles once again used a balance attack as eight different Eagles registered a kill, led by senior Lindsay Ibold and junior Brittney Rader’s nine each.  The duo combined for only one error on 33 attacks.  Rader also had five service aces including a stretch of three straight in the third set.  The five aces are tied for the most on the team in a single match this season.

Kelly Cole highlighted the defense with 10 of the team’s 40 digs as CCU committed 20 total attack errors.  Mackenzie Burke and Jessie Bartlow had 17 and 15 assists respectively.  Burke added two service aces as the team tallied eight.

Asbury will head to Lexington on Saturday to battle a pair of NCAA Division III teams in Rose-Hulman Tech and Transylvania at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
