Eagles Claim Gray Wolf Invitational
SYLVANIA, Ohio – Asbury volleyball continues to roll, winning the Gray Wolf Invitational hosted by Lourdes College on Saturday. The Eagles didn’t drop a set in the four game tournament, defeating the hosts for the championship 25-22, 25-12, 25-13. Asbury (13-2) has won 12 matches in a row and 34 straight sets.
Three players were named to the All-Tournament team as senior Lindsay Ibold, sophomore Allison Rehner and freshman Sarah Sterling took home honors. Ibold paced the Eagles in both matches Saturday, Asbury also defeated Ohio State-Marion in three sets, with 13 kills in each match. She finished the weekend with 41 kills and a .569 attack percentage, her season percentage of .502 leads the NAIA.
Dena Busse added 13 kills against OSU-Marion as the Eagles racked up 48 kills overall. OSU-Marion finished with only four kills as the Eagles won 25-9, 25-5, 25-9. The Eagles hit .667 in the match, committing only four errors as a team. Mackenzie Burke added 28 assists and Kelly Cole led the team with nine digs.
In the championship match against Lourdes the Eagles continued their hot offensive streak, hitting .344 with 40 more kills. Busse added eight more kills to finish with 21 on the day. Brittney Rader also had 16 kills on the day and Allison Rehner finished with 12.
Against Lourdes Burke added 20 more assists and Cole tallied 20 digs. The Eagles had 55 digs in the match, the most in two weeks. Cole also added 10 service aces during the weekend as Asbury racked up 34 overall.
The Eagles continue to chase down their school-record 18-match win streak that they set last year, having won 12 straight after dropping three of their first four. Their 34 set win streak is already a school record.
Asbury finally returns home on Tuesday to host Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m.
