Volleyball Releases 2011 Slate

Asbury will play 12 home matches during the 2011 season.WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury University’s volleyball program has released their 2011 schedule as announced by coach JP Rader.  The Eagles are scheduled to play 42 matches including two tournaments.

The Eagles open the season at a tournament hosted by University of Rio Grande in Ohio on August 26th and 27th, they are scheduled to play Rio Grande, Point Park University and Union (Ky.) College with a consolation and finals game as well.  On the second week of September Asbury will take part in the Lourdes College tournament in Sylvania, Ohio on September 16th and 17th, taking on Lourdes, Lawrence Tech and Ohio State-Marion.

Asbury will host their first home match against Midway on August 31st at 7 p.m. which will also kick-off their defense of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Title.  The Eagles finished last year a perfect 8-0 in KIAC matches.  This year the league has decided to play a double round-robin format with 15 conference matches scheduled.

The lone tri-match at the Luce Center this year will be on October 15th as two KIAC members, Berea and Indiana East, head to Wilmore.  Indiana East captured the KIAC Tournament Title by beating the Eagles in four games, the two teams will get the tri-match started at 12 p.m.  They will also meet in Richmond, Ind. on October 26th.

Asbury will take on Georgetown College for the first time since 2006 on September 24th at 4:30 p.m. in Georgetown.  That day the Eagles will host Union (Ky.) at 11:30 a.m. in a rare two-city double-header.  Asbury will repeat the feat on November 5th as they host Brescia at 2 p.m. in their final home match of the season then head to Frankfort to play Kentucky State at 7 p.m.

The Eagles will hold Senior Day during Homecoming Weekend on Friday October 28th as they host Mountain State at 7 p.m.  Asbury will also play a match against alumni on September 9th.

This year’s KIAC Tournament will be held on November 11th and 12th at a still yet to be determined site.
