Eagles Cap Off Historic Regular Season
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury capped off a historic regular season and a remarkable run through the KIAC with a 3-0 win over Berea College on Thursday night. The 25-10, 25-10, 25-13 sweep was the 19th time Asbury won in three sets.
Asbury (30-2, 8-0) finished the KIAC as the lone unbeaten and claimed their second KIAC Regular Season Title, their other one came in 2008. The Eagles are currently riding a ten game winning streak; they also posted a program best 18-game streak earlier this year. The team will in all likelihood finish with less than ten losses for the first time since 1979, the second year of the program when they went 11-8. With two more wins the Eagles will tie the most wins in school history set by the 1993 team that finished 32-11.
The Eagles have used a balanced attack all season long and Thursday was not any different as four players had at least five kills and no one reached double-figures. Brittney Rader led the way against the Mountaineers with nine kills and Lindsay Ibold added seven. Dena Busse had six kills and two blocks as Allison Rehner recorded five kills. Mackenzie Burke had 21 assists for the Eagles.
Asbury will head to the KIAC Tournament at Brescia University in Owensboro on Friday and Saturday November 13th and 14th. They will play the winner of the 8/9 seed play-in between Brescia and Berea on Friday in a quarterfinal match. Asbury’s potential semi-final will be against the winner of the #4 seed Cincinnati Christian and #5 seed Midway on Saturday. The Championship match will also be on Saturday.
