Rader, Busse lead Eagles Past Patriots

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Brittney Rader had a season high 14 kills and Dena Busse had a career best eight total blocks and 12 kills as the Eagles racked up their 12th straight win against the University of the Cumberlands.

Asbury improves to 14-1 overall, continuing to build on the best start and longest winning streak in school history, with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16 victory over the Patriots (4-15).  Rader piled up seven of her kills in the fourth set as Asbury had their best game of the match to put away Cumberlands.  In that set the Eagles had 15 kills and only two errors, an attack percentage of .310.

The Eagles were their own worst enemy in the second set with 10 errors, breaking a streak of 20 consecutive sets won.  The Eagles continue to use a balanced attack as Lauren Budde (7), Lindsay Ibold (6), Allison Rehner (6), Emily Andrews (5), and Catherine Wolter (5) all registered at least five kills.

Andrews also tallied 21 assists on the night and Mackenzie Burke led the way with 26.  Burke’s 26 ties Andrews’ season high from earlier this season and is a new career best for the freshman.  Busse’s eight blocks are a career best and a season high for the team.

Asbury will be in Indiana this Saturday for a tri-match against Manchester College and the hosts Hanover College.  The Eagles are scheduled to play at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
