Eagles Sweep Thorobrettes, Off to Best Start in 24 Years

Lauren Budde (2) helped lead the attack against Kentucky State on Tuesday.Frankfort, KY – Asbury has matched the best start in school history at 10-1 after a straight set victory over Kentucky State on Tuesday evening.  The Eagles now stand with the 1986 team that also started 10-1.

Asbury got off to a slow start in their 25-19, 25-11, 25-14 victory over the Thorobrettes, with nine kills and six errors in the first set, only a .091 attack percentage.  After that the Eagles got back to the attack that has carried them on their current eight game winning streak, with a .389 and .310 attack percentages in sets two and three.  Asbury racked up 18 kills in the third set alone, part of their 37 in the match.

Lauren Budde and Lindsay Ibold each tallied eight kills in the match to lead the Eagles, Allison Rehner added seven and had no errors.  Emily Andrews racked up 18 assists and three kills and tied with Kelly Cole for the team-high with nine digs.  The Eagles followed Saturday’s 13-ace match against Mountain State with 10 more on Tuesday.  Five different Eagles recorded an ace as Mackenzie Burke led the way with three.

The Eagles will head to Owensboro on Thursday to take on Brescia University at 7:00 pm in a non-KIAC match.  Asbury’s scheduled tri-match on Saturday will now be one match only against Kentucky State at 12:00 pm.
