Asbury Sweeps First Tri-Match

Mayfield, KY – Asbury made quick work of their first tri-match of the season as they defeated both the hosts Mid-Continent University and Crowley’s Ridge (Ark.) 3-0 on Saturday.  The Eagles improve to 6-1 on the season and stay perfect in road and neutral contests at 5-0.

The Eagles took down the Cougars from Mid-Continent 25-14, 25-16, and 25-11 and had even less trouble with Crowley’s Ridge as they won 25-6, 25-9, and 25-11.  Against the Cougars, Asbury was extremely efficient and extremely deadly as their attack percentage was an outstanding .465. 

Junior Lindsay Ibold had a season high 14 kills on 19 attacks and zero errors.  Ibold also led the defensive attack as she registered four block assists.  Asbury totaled 12 blocks in the match.  Freshman Allison Rehner wasn’t too far behind as she piled up 10 kills on 15 attacks and only one error.  Eight different Eagles registered a kill in the match.

Asbury tallied their season best in service aces with nine in the match, Hannah Wheeler led the team with four.  Wheeler was also the team leader with 11 digs. 

In the second match the Eagles faced little oppostion in the three set win over Crowley's Ridge.  Ibold continued her spectacular play as she notched 10 more kills and only one error.  Emily Andrews was close to a double-double witn nine kills and 13 assists, Mackenzie Burke totaled 20 assists.

Asbury totaled 46 kills in the match and hit .422.  The team dug 43 balls, led by Hannah Wheeler's 12.  Asbury's 46 kills in each match are the most in a three-set match this year and are tied for third best in any match.

Asbury will head to Cincinnati Christian on Tuesday September 14th in a non-KIAC match at 7:00 pm before returning home to host Mountain State and Pikeville in a tri-match next Saturday September 18th.
