Eagles Take Down Bulldogs in Straight Sets
Athens, TN – Head Coach JP Rader’s second year at the helm of the Eagles’ volleyball program got off to a promising start, with a 25-17, 25-22, 29-27 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan College on Friday night.
Sophomore Brittney Rader led the team with eight kills in only 18 attempts, she had an attack percentage of .222. Asbury struggled with their attack as they committed 30 errors and had 39 kills on 101 attacks. Freshman Allison Rehner and senior Lauren Budde tallied seven kills each. Juniors Lindsay Ibold and Dena Busse had six kills as the Eagles used a team attack to take down the Lady Bulldogs.
Overall seven Eagles debuted in the match as 13 Eagles saw the floor in the match. One of those newcomers, Mackenzie Burke, led the team with 15 assists. Senior Emily Andrews tallied 14 and two kills, seven digs, and two block assists. Senior Libero Hannah Wheeler led the team with nine of the team’s 40 digs. Freshman Kelly Cole notched two of the Eagles five service aces.
Asbury will travel to St. Catharine College on Tuesday August 31st for a 7:00 pm match, the JV will play at 5:00 pm. The Eagles open up at home on Thursday September 2nd against Union College at 7:00 pm.
