NCCAA Volleyball Mid-East Pairings Announced
The NCCAA Mid-East Region announced the format of this year's qualifying tournament on Monday afternoon. Asbury will play Bryan College and Bluefield College in pool play on Friday November 20th in Covenat, Ga.
Asbury (23-13) lost in the KIAC Championship to Indiana-East over the weekend and will now turn their attention towards the NCCAA National Tournament. The winner of the Mid-East Region gains an automatic bid to the National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. December 3-5. There will also be at-large bids given to teams throughout the country based on placement in their region and final national ranking.
The Mid-East Region features five of the top 13 NCCAA teams in the country including #3 Campbellsville and #4 King (Tenn.). Asbury is currently just outside the top 10 at #11. The Eagles will open the regional against #6 Bryan College (Tenn.) at 9:00 am on Friday, November 20th. Bryan beat the Eagles in four games back on October 10th in the Asbury Invitational. Asbury will also play Bluefield College on Friday at 1:00 pm in their second pool play match.
The winner of each pool will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, November 21st for a match at 1:00 pm, with the two second place finishers playing a one game tie-breaker to 25 at 9:30 Saturday morning for the right to play Campbellsville at 11:00 am. The Championship match will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
Asbury has taken part in the NCCAA National Tournament only once, back in 2005. The Eagles finished pool play 2-2 and did not advance to the semi-finals. A Mid-East Regional was not held that year, and Asbury has never competed in Mid-East Regional Tournament.
